Bark is deeply ridged and reddish brown.

Bark of a young tree is deeply ridged similar to the more mature tree.

The longer pine needles on the right are from Pinus taeda and usually occur in bundles of 3ís. The shorter needles on the left are from Pinus echinata and usually occur in bundles of 2ís.
