Welcome!

Rare plants of North Carolina (PB495/595) is geared toward students in ecosystem assessment, plant biology, ecology, natural resources, conservation, and related disciplines. This course aims to provide a taxonomic survey of the rare plants of North Carolina. The course comprehensively treats federally listed plant species in North Carolina, as well as state listed congeners or congeners of conservation concern. Particular attention will be placed on:

-identification of rare species and their congeners
-biogeography of rare species
-optimum survey windows
-conservation biology of select taxa

The course is taught on Thursdays in the Fall (5:40-7:30 pm) and includes three Saturday field trips.
