Purpose :  Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and best known society that  recognizes academic achievement in the liberal arts.  Election to  Phi Beta Kappa is among the highest honors bestowed on undergraduate students.
  
Eligibility:  Students must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts discipline, including Plant Biology and have achieved second-  semester junior status Students are selected based on outstanding academic achievement, with the proportion of students limited to the top 10% of the class.

Selection: Students are selected by the Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa

           Purpose:    To recognize the outstanding undergraduate in the department

           Deadline:     Mid April

 Nominations: Plant Biology Awards Committee
             
Criteria:   Good grades, other plant biology department-related criteria  including research, teaching, participation in the Botany club. Award cannot be given to a graduating senior since the funds  must be spent on tuition the following (Fall) semester.

           Award:   Up to $1000 divided between up to 2 students

Gold StarChilton Undergraduate Research Award

           Purpose:    To recognize the outstanding undergraduate in the department

           Deadline:     Mid April

 Nominations: Plant Biology Awards Committee
             
 Criteria:   
Students must be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors with an interest in becoming involved in research with a faculty member in Plant Biology.Students must secure the consent of a faculty member in Plant Biology to be their sponsor.Students can be majors in any department in any college.

  

           Award:           Up to $1500
