Academic Programs in Plant Pathology

The Graduate Program is an integral and important component of our mission in the Department of Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University. The faculty and administration are committed to providing an atmosphere for excellence in graduate education. Our goal as a department is to provide students with the educational opportunities and experiences necessary to become qualified, well educated scientists ready to succeed in the 21st century.

Located within minutes of North Carolina's Research Triangle Park (RTP) and two other major universities, the Department of Plant Pathology is recognized nationally and internationally for breadth and depth in its research, extension and outreach, which provides the opportunities for a comprehensive graduate education and training program that will meet the career goals of every student.

Although only graduate degrees are offered in plant pathology, several undergraduate courses are taught as well as courses in the 2-year Agricultural Institute. Undergraduate students at the sophomore or higher level, including those in the university honors program, also may gain an introduction to research in plant pathology by taking special problems courses and participating in faculty research programs. Additionally, many plant pathology faculty serve as academic advisors to undergraduates in our College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
