Cylindrocladium black rot (caused by Cylindrocladium parasiticum) is an important disease in the Virginia-Carolina production area. CBR attacks the peanut taproot, resulting in wilting, yellowing, and plant death. CBR also rots pods, causing severe yield loss. CBR is managed by rotating peanuts with corn, cotton, or small grains, planting partially resistant cultivars like NC 12C and Perry, and in severe cases, by fumigating with metam sodium. Rotating peanuts with soybean should be avoided.
