Off-Campus Facilities
Much of the work of the North Carolina Agricultural Research Service is done in laboratories, greenhouses and other specialized facilities on the North Carolina State University campus. Yet scientists must have access to the real world if their work is to have application in that world. Two regional research and extension centers-at Fletcher and Plymouth-provide this access, as do nine field laboratories. Seven of these field labs are near the NC State campus; the other two are at Butner and Aurora. Agricultural Research Service scientists also have access to 15 research stations scattered across the state. Six of these stations are owned by NC State, the other nine by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Our scientists, working with the NCDA&CS and North Carolina A&T State University, are involved in research being done at the Center for Environmental Farming Systems near Goldsboro. This unique facility is reserved for research involving sustainable agriculture, organic farming and conservation tillage.
