cooperative research of the 13 Southern states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Southern Association takes a proactive role in national planning and budget activities. At the national level, it is the regional agricultural research linkage to the state-federal partnership between the land-grant universities and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, the Congress, and other parts of the federal science establishment. The Southern Association maintains a national and regional communications system to provide timely information to Southern directors, which allows them to more broadly and effectively engage the interested publics and funding sources.
