National Convention

Delta Tau Alpha Honor Society
April 4 to 6, 2004

The Agricultural Institute is known for its delicious food and good hospitality.  If you like good food and good conversation, you have come to the right place.  We plan to provide all of your meals from Sunday lunch through Tuesday dinner.  This will give you an opportunity to try some of the foods that the Agricultural Institute and North Carolina are known far and wide for perfecting.  Among other delicacies, you will love the hushpuppies that Agricultural Institute / DTA alumnus, Cliff Cobb, and his father will cook for you at the Pig Pickin.  We will guarantee you that you will gain several pounds during the National Convention, but you will love every minute of it!

What’s on the Menu?

Sunday Lunch

Faculty, Staff, and Administrators, including NACTA Members at NC State, will prepare a picnic lunch for us at Pullen Park, which is near our hotel.  These folks donated the funds to pay for the meal, and they will provide the labor.  They want to offer you a big WELCOME!  Special thanks are extended to Jonathan Phillips for organizing this effort on our behalf.

Russ, Club advisers, for providing this meal for us.  The Agricultural Institute Club donated $1,000 to the Agricultural Institute Alumni Scholarship endowment from proceeds at a Pig Pickin in March.  The Club is known far and wide for its outstanding Pig Pickins!

DTA Inductions are big events in the Agricultural Institute.  The beautiful and delicious cake pictured above was made for a recent Induction by Sandi Brickhouse.  Sandi is our Parliamentarian as well as the head cook for both DTA and the Agricultural Institute Club.  The families of new inductees are invited to our Inductions.  At our recent Induction in January, we had over 100 people!  While Dr. Russ and a couple of DTA members cooked over 60 pounds of chicken and 50 pounds of french fries for our meal, other members prepared salad, baked beans, sweet tea, and dessert.  We know how to have a good time in the Agricultural Institute!

Lunch is courtesy of the Agricultural Institute Alumni Committee.  The Agricultural Institute could not ask for more devoted alumni.  We are truly a family in the Agricultural Institute!  Alumni serve as guest speakers during classes, assist students in their internship and job searches, help the Agricultural Institute Club conduct educational Road Trips, as well as serve on college committees.  Basically, Agricultural Institute alumni help us with about anything and everything that we ask them to do!

Pizza is the most common meal at our biweekly DTA meetings.  Attendance this semester is running about 40 to 55 people per meeting, which is a good turnout.  Meetings usually last about 1.5 hours.  After a good meal, we conduct our DTA business.  We have a guest speaker about every other meeting.  A popular topic last spring was, “How to Day Trade in the Stock Market,” which was given by a DTA member who is a very successful day trader.

The Banquet is our formal meal.  Attire is dressy:  Ties and jackets for males; Dresses or pantsuits for females.  The Banquet will be held in the Washington Room at the hotel.  The ceremony will include addresses by our National Officers, our National Adviser, our National Treasurer, Agricultural Institute Officers, and other dignitaries in attendance.  The keynote speaker for the evening is outstanding!  This year the Banquet will conclude our National Convention.  We hope that you plan to be here!  Please let us know if there is anything that we can do to make your visit more enjoyable and educational.
