Grant Writing Resources

Writing a grant or helping a producer write a grant for a value-added or alternative enterprise?

Grant writing can be a daunting task. We can provide assistance in writing and putting together grant packages. This assistance is funded by the North Carolina Tobacco Trust Fund Commission. Prerequisites for assistance are 1) a field or campus CALS faculty member be a participant in the project and 2) the project have some focus or benefit to helping tobacco farm families add or transition to new enterprises. This funding has enabled us to hire Kathy Kennel to assist in the grant writing process.

Kathy can provide one-on-one assistance with:

  • Developing and editing proposals
  • Reviewing and understanding the application process
  • Reviewing applications and proposals for accuracy, completeness and clarity
  • Identifing funding sources
  • Reviewing funders’ guidelines and funding priorities to determine compatibility with your project

In addition, Kathy will be happy to meet with you and your staff to review grant writing basics or present a workshop on grant writing.

To obtain assistance or setup a workshop, contact Blake Brown, blake_brown@ncsu.edu, 919 515-4536.

We will also strive to keep you abreast of current grant opportunities (see below) in the value-added and alternative agriculture area.
