Waste Processing Facility At the heart of Animal and Poultry Waste Management Center activities is the Waste Processing Facility. This facility houses a variety of equipment such as extruders, a fluidized bed dryer, flash dehydrators and pellet mills designed to process by-products. The facility is within North Carolina State University's Lake Wheeler Road Field Laboratory, which contains cattle, fish, poultry and swine research units. Through the Waste Processing Facility and a nearby composting facility, the center provides the means to develop, evaluate and demonstrate novel methods of managing the by-products of animal agriculture and of converting these resources into useful, valuable products. The Waste Processing Facility is also used frequently for waste management demonstrations and training.
